LG Smart TVs run webOS, a fast and friendly operating system with its own app store. That means you can watch IPTV directly on the TV, without a separate box, as long as you choose a compatible player. This guide covers how to set up IPTV on an LG Smart TV, the settings worth changing and what to do when things do not go to plan.

Quick answer: On an LG Smart TV, install an IPTV player from the LG Content Store (Apps), then add your M3U link or Xtream Codes login. webOS only installs store apps, so if the player you want is not listed, choose another or add a streaming device.

Before you start

You will need:

  • An LG Smart TV with webOS connected to the internet.
  • Your IPTV login — an M3U link or Xtream Codes details.
  • Optionally, a phone or computer to enter long links more easily.

Update the TV first so the app store and system libraries are current: open Settings → All Settings → General (or Support) → About This TV → Check for updates. Menu names vary a little between webOS versions, but the update option is always in this area.

Step 1: Install a player from the LG Content Store

LG’s app store is called the LG Content Store on most models (newer versions simply label it Apps).

  1. Press the Home button.
  2. Open the LG Content Store or Apps.
  3. Search for “IPTV” or for the player your provider recommends.
  4. Check the description for supported login types and read recent reviews.
  5. Select Install.

Like Samsung’s Tizen, webOS does not let regular users install apps from outside the store. App availability depends on your TV’s region and webOS version, so if a specific player is missing, choose another or consider a streaming device.

Some TV players require activation on the developer’s website using a device ID or MAC address shown in the app. This is common and simply links your TV to your playlist without typing it on the remote.

Step 2: Add your login

Open the app and choose the option to add a playlist or account:

  • Xtream Codes: enter the server URL (with http:// and port if provided), then username and password.
  • M3U playlist: enter the full link, or use the app’s web upload option if it has one.

The first load includes the channel list and the program guide, so allow a minute or two. Our login format explainer helps if you are unsure which to use.

Step 3: Optimize the network connection

webOS TVs support Wi-Fi and, on most models, wired Ethernet. For live TV the connection matters more than anything else:

  • Ethernet gives the most stable stream if you can run a cable or use a powerline adapter.
  • On Wi-Fi, connect to the 5 GHz band and keep the router reasonably close.
  • Turn on Quick Start+ (in General settings) if you want the TV to resume faster — but note it keeps the TV partly awake, using a little more standby power.

If you see buffering, compare your connection options in Wi-Fi vs Ethernet for streaming and follow our buffering checklist.

Step 4: Picture and sound settings

LG TVs offer several picture modes. For general viewing, Standard or Eco are bright; for films, Cinema or Filmmaker Mode look more natural. Motion settings live under Picture → Advanced Settings → Clarity → TruMotion on many models. Turning TruMotion down or off removes the “soap-opera” look on films, while a low setting can help fast sport.

If dialogue drifts out of sync with the picture when using a soundbar, look for AV Sync Adjustment in the sound settings. Our dedicated guide to IPTV audio out of sync explains every fix.

Troubleshooting LG IPTV issues

  • App will not open: restart the TV fully by unplugging it for a minute, then try again.
  • Channel list empty: re-enter the login carefully; check the account is active.
  • Guide shows wrong times: check Settings → General → Time & Timer (or System → Time & Date) is set to your time zone; then refresh the guide.
  • App missing after an update: reinstall it from the store.
  • Slow menus: hide unused channel groups and keep favorites short.

LG TV app or streaming stick?

The built-in app is convenient, but a dedicated streaming device usually has a faster processor, more app choice and more frequent updates. Many people use both — the TV app in the bedroom and a stick on the main TV. We compare them in Smart TV apps vs a streaming stick. Frequently asked questions

Why can I not find my player in the LG Content Store?

App availability depends on your TV’s region and webOS version. Older TVs may not support newer apps. Try another player, or add a streaming device if the app you need is not available.

Does Quick Start+ improve IPTV performance?

It makes the TV turn on faster by keeping it partly awake, but it does not affect streaming quality. It does use a little more standby power.
