An IPTV app that closes the moment you open it, freezes on the loading screen or crashes when you open the guide is frustrating — especially when it worked yesterday. When an IPTV app keeps crashing, the cause is usually low storage or memory, a corrupted cache, an update problem or a playlist too large for the device. Here is how to fix it, from quickest to most thorough.
Quick answer: Force stop the app and restart the device, then clear the app’s cache, free up storage and update both the app and the device. If it still crashes, hide unused channel groups, reduce stored guide days, or clear data and reinstall with your login ready.
Step 1: Force stop and reopen
A simple close does not always stop an app completely.
- Fire TV: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → your player → Force stop.
- Google TV / Android TV: Settings → Apps → your player → Force stop.
- Android phones: long-press the app icon → App info → Force stop.
- Apple TV: double-press the TV button, swipe the app up.
- iPhone / iPad: swipe up from the bottom, then swipe the app away.
- Smart TVs: close the app, then turn the TV off and unplug it for a minute.
Step 2: Restart the device
Restarting clears memory and background processes. On Fire TV: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart. On other devices, unplug for 30 seconds.
Step 3: Clear the cache
The cache stores temporary data — artwork, guide data, channel lists. When it is corrupted or too large, crashes follow.
- Fire TV and Android: in the app’s settings page (as above), choose Clear cache.
- iPhone / iPad: iOS does not offer a cache button; use Offload App in Settings → General → iPhone/iPad Storage, then reinstall — your data is kept.
Clearing the cache does not remove your login or favorites.
Step 4: Free up storage and memory
Low storage is the most common cause on streaming sticks.
- Uninstall apps you do not use.
- Delete leftover installer files from downloader apps.
- Check free space: on Fire TV, Settings → My Fire TV → About → Storage. Aim to keep at least 1 GB free.
Background apps also use memory. Avoid running several heavy apps at once on low-memory devices. Fire TV owners should also read Firestick running slow.
Step 5: Update the app and the device
- Update the player from its app store, or from the developer’s official site if you installed it that way.
- Update the device software (Settings → About / System → updates).
A crash that starts right after an update is often fixed in the next release. Check the app’s store page or website for known issues.
Step 6: Reduce what the app loads
Large playlists and guide data can overwhelm smaller devices, causing crashes on startup or when opening the guide:
- Hide channel categories you never watch.
- Reduce the number of days of guide data stored.
- Switch to Xtream Codes login if you use a very large M3U playlist — it usually loads data in smaller pieces. See how the two login formats load data.
- Turn off artwork-heavy features like posters in on-demand libraries if the app allows it.
Step 7: Clear data or reinstall
If crashes continue, start fresh:
- Make sure you have your login details to hand.
- On Fire TV and Android: Clear data (this removes logins, favorites and settings), or uninstall.
- Reinstall the app from its store or official source.
- Add your login and test before restoring favorites.
Step 8: Check settings that commonly cause crashes
- Decoder: some channels crash with one decoder — switch between hardware and software.
- Experimental features: turn off beta options.
- External player: if the app hands playback to a separate player, make sure that player is installed and up to date.
Our IPTV player settings guide explains each option.
Is it the app or the device?
Install the same app on another device, or try a different player on the same device. If the same app crashes everywhere, it is the app or your playlist. If every app crashes on one device, the device is low on resources, overheating or needs a reset.
| Clue | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Crashes on startup only | Corrupted cache or large playlist |
| Crashes when opening the guide | Too much EPG data for the device |
| Crashes on certain channels | Decoder issue with that stream |
| Crashes since an update | App bug — wait for a fix or try another player |
| All apps crash | Device storage, memory or overheating |

Frequently asked questions
Will reinstalling the app delete my favorites?
Usually, yes, unless the app syncs them to an account or lets you export a backup. Check for a backup or export option in the app settings before you uninstall, and save your login details.
Why does the app only crash when I open the TV guide?
The guide is often the most demanding part of the app, especially with thousands of channels and many days of data. Hide unused categories, reduce the number of days stored and clear the cache to lighten the load.
